Turkey Wars 2011
Nov 26
The Saturday after Thanksgiving there is a regular get together, lately held at Wargames in Nashville, called Turkey Wars. It’s a game day open to all. This year about 15 people showed up for a variety of games. I’m including a few pictures I took with my phone. I ran the first game that pit the players against a mutant hoard trying to take over The Science Building of Middle State Technical University (MSTU!). It was a blood bath. No humans survived. It was a close one at the end. Though badly beaten the humans made a valiant attempt to retake the Tech Room. The most hopeful moment was when Percy Fitzwater, the somewhat nerdy boy genius busted into a room, killed the mutant there, repaired the combat robot and set out to take out more. Alas he was quickly taken down. One robot did manage to take out 4 of the 5 leader mutants but it wasn’t enough. The almost endless numbers of mutants washed through the building like the implacable Pacific tsunami leaving only destruction in their wake.
The second game was a meeting engagement with Union and Confederate infantry companies in a meeting engagement, cut off from one another until close range. The Confederate Left Flank took it in the chin but managed to rally the survivors only to see the Right Flank folding like a napkin. The Union took some damage but had enough squads in good order to run off the survivors.
Both games were great fun! Check out the gallery below!

An on-site report about the annual TankFest at the Bovington Tank Museum in the UK came in to Armchair General, complete with photos and a video link. Here’s a link to the story for all you gearheads (and who among us isn’t one). I also published a tribute to Uncle Duke Seifried and his years in miniatures gaming on the ACG site this morning.

Hi all, I just found out about a boardgame convention that is in Nashville this weekend. It is called Tennessee Game Days and is up on Lebanon Pike (near Briley Parkway). You can get more information here: http://www.tngamedays.com/index.html.
I think I will attend. It is close to where I live. I think it would be fun. If anyone wants to join me just drop me a line.
They are also having a food drive so if you decide to go pick up something canned to help the needy.
Location: Donelson Christian Church, 2319 Lebanon Road, Nashville, TN 37214
Date: Friday, June 5 through Sunday, June 7
Times: Friday & Saturday: 9 a.m. until 1 a.m.; Sunday 12:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Cost for the Weekend: $25 at the door
At Tennessee Game Days, we like to try and give back to the community during our event. The location we are holding our event also serves as a food pantry for needy families in the area. With this in mind, we are, once again, holding a food drive in connection with our gaming event. We ask that, as part of your admission fee for the weekend, to please bring some non-perishible food items to donate to Second Harvest. Second Harvest is one of the largest food banks in the country and is pivotal to supplying many area families with much needed food. Please be generous and give back while you’re having fun!
